Have you ever woken up the next day after a successful workout to feel some soreness in your hamstrings, calves, quad and maybe back. This soreness doesn't feel like the effects of the workout because it is only occurring in a small area of the body and feels like it just needs to be stretched out or massaged out.
Well guess what? you have fallen prey to improper or inadequate warmup.
Sprinters are notorious for not warming up properly however most athletes have fallen culprit to the incomplete warm up routine for several reasons.
Sometimes, you are late to practice and need to get started immediately, sometimes you are just so excited to get started.
Whatever the reason, It is important that you warm up properly to prevent injuries and improve flexibility.
Bottom line GETTING HURT SUCKS! hence warming up before a workout can prolong your track or cross country career and could be the key to staying injury free.
I suggest these dynamic warm ups before the jog:
Hip Circles
Arm Swings
High knee walk to lunges
Side ways lunge stretch
Walking Hamstring Stretch
Walking single leg toe touches
Pike stretch
Leg swings
10 minutes jogging warm up.
